Directed by John Ford, this film was a huge box office success upon its release and is remembered as a “beautifully photographed, often comedic romance.”
John Wayne plays a retired American boxer who returns to the village of his birth in Ireland, where he falls in love with Mary Kate Danaher, played by Maureen O’Hara. Dramas and capers ensue in the fictional village of Inisfree, filmed in part on location in west Ireland.
Ignatiy Vishnevetsky writes for the A.V. Club: “Designed in the lushest greens ever squeezed out of Technicolor, The Quiet Man is a movie that isn’t about a whole lot, but contains so much, from Wayne’s easygoing charisma to the notoriously protracted climactic fight to the febrile, film-noir-like flashback to his boxing days … The Quiet Man is a whole universe.”
The film will begin promptly at 1:30 on the second floor of the library. Seating is first come, first served.
